After preparing for nearly four years and spending US$300 million, the Taipei City government pronounced the Taipei International Flora Exposition ready to go today, the day before its official opening. The six-month long expo, covering 91.8 hectares of parkland in the heart of the city, will feature approximately 800 species of Taiwan's world famous orchids, over 30 million stems of locally grown and developed plants, and garden designs from over 59 cities and 93 organizations. Taiwan was selected by the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) in 2006 to host the prestigious event, the first internationally recognized exposition ever to be held in Taiwan.
